Accommodating academics in a combination of open-plan team spaces and 9.0 sqm offices in a 15metre deep building with limited daylight, was the challenge presented to the design team for the refurbishment and fitting out of the City Innovation Centre in Islington. The project had arisen from the urgent need to relocate displaced staff following the fire in College Building at City University. Under a construction management contract that involved working around tenants on adjacent floors, building works were completed in 14 weeks.

"After ten years in academia, and more than twenty in local government, this is the best designed working environment I've had. Tectus engineered a transformation which surprised everyone. It feels right." Stephen Morris, Head of the Department of Computing.
